Moving To New York

A recent poll found that over 50% of young Americans interviewed would consider moving to New York City. What is it about the Big Apple's big city lights that attracts these young adults? Maybe it's the diversity of New York's historical melting pot of cultures.  Or perhaps it's the multinational cuisine offered by the numerous city neighborhoods.  For some it could be New York's metropolitan theater and arts districts.  Maybe it's the non-stop 24-7 pulse of city life. Whatever the reason, without a doubt there is no city in the USA quite like NYC.

When you are serious about your move to New York, check out Movers-Moving.NET, and get moving quotes from top rated New York movers.

The state of New York was admitted to the union on July 26, 1788 as the 11th state, and was one of the original 13 colonies. New York's nickname is "The Empire State", and it's motto is "Excelsior - Ever Upward". The state song is, of course, "I Love New York". New York is bordered by Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont, and by Canada to the north.

New York's state bird is the bluebird, the state tree is the Sugar Maple, and the state flower is the Rose. It's state animal is the beaver.

When people move to or within New York, it often is to New York's largest cities. Certainly New York City is the largest city in the state, as well as the largest city in the USA. NYC is made up of 5 boroughs - The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. But the state of New York has other large cities that people move to that aren't part of the Big Apple. They include Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and it's state capital of Albany.

Points of interest in the Empire State include Niagra Falls, the Statue of Liberty, the Baseball Hall of Fame, Times Square, and the Bronx Zoo. In addition, the fall colors in the mountains of New York are a beautiful sight to behold.

New York is home to some of the best professional sports teams anywhere.  They include the New York Yankees, the Mets, the Knicks and the New York Giants.

Slice of History - Did you know . . . that New York was inhabited by the Algonquin, Iroquois and Lenape Native Americans when Henry Hudson first claimed the area in the early 1600's. The Dutch were the first to colonize areas of New York in 1624, specifically what is present day Albany and Manhattan.

Over the years the state of New York has been home to or the birthplace of many famous Americans. Just a handful of these famous New Yorkers include Teddy Roosevelt, Walt Whitman, Norman Rockwell, Vince Lombardi, Sammy Davis Jr., Kareem Abdul- Jabbar, and Lucille Ball.

The state of New York has many world class colleges and universities. They include among others Columbia University in NYC, Cornell University in Ithaca, Hofstra University in Hempstead, Julliard School in NYC, and St. Johns University in Queens.
