PACKING AND MOVING TIPS BY MOVERS-MOVING.NET

Quick Moving Tip # 63 - Insuring High Value Items * High Value Article: Items included in a shipment valued at more than $100 per pound. Very Important to adequately declare and insure these Items.

Quick Moving Tip # 13 - Pack Non Essentials First * Pack non essential items first, and other items that you rarely use. This way you can begin packing months in advance. Stack these boxes in out of the way places, such as closets or your garage.

Movers Tip # 54 - Moving Terms - Expedited Service * Expedited Service: An agreement with the mover to perform transportation by a set date. There can be delays due to weather in the winter. Most movers are on time and reliable and will do their best to be there on the set date. Time is money to movers.

Moving Tip # 93 - Moving Estimate Inventory * When getting a moving company estimate, be sure that you receive a thorough and legible inventory of items to be moved. This is the main basis for the price of your move.

Movers Tip # 17 - Load Last, Unload First * When loading your items, make sure you designate some boxes for essentials and items needed immediately at unload. Be sure these boxes are clearly labeled as "load last / unload first" or something similar, for easy accessibility. These items might include first day snacks, drinks and food. Also important toiletries and linens, medications, bedding, TV remote and flashlights.

Movers Tip # 51 - Know Your Moving Rights and Responsiblities * Know your rights, you will be signing a contract. As a consumer you are protected and you do have rights. But you have to do your homework before signing anything. And make sure you completely understand all the terms and conditions of the contract.

Moving Tip # 7 - Mark Your Boxes on the Sides, Not the Top * When marking your boxes be sure to do so on the side, not the top. When boxes are stacked on top of eachother, you can read writing on the side, but not on the top. Also, you might consider marking them on 2 sides. That way when whichever way they are stacked you can likely read the markings.

Movers Tip # 94 - Moving Company Access Charges * Be sure your moving estimate shows access for both origin and destination. For example, are you moving from a 4th apartment with an elevator and a 300 foot carry to the truck? Access plays an important part in final cost.

Movers Tip # 65 - Additional Charges for Flights of Stairs * Flight Charge: A charge for carrying items up or down flights of stairs. Time is money to movers, and a flight of stairs adds time to the overall move. So don't be surprised to see the extra charge.

Moving Tip # 66 - Filing a Claim With Your Movers * For interstate moving you have 9 months to file a claim in writing. It does not have to be submitted on a mover's claim form, however it must clearly identify your shipment, clearly identify the damage or claimed items, and also claim a specific dollar amount. Remember you have plenty time to go over all your goods more carefully. So don't worry that you have to identify any and all claims before the movers leave, however any damage that is clear and evident should be noted on the shipping documents.

Moving Tip # 5 - Packing Heavy Items - Books, Papers, Canned Goods * Pack heavy items like books, papers, canned goods, small tools and CD's into sturdy, smaller cartons. If you pack them into larger cartons, they will be too heavy and difficult to move, or could break thru the cartons. Magazines and papers you should lay flat.
