Preparing For Your Movers - Packing a Few Boxes Every Day
It is not uncommon for a home to have 75 to 150 cartons to pack for your movers to move. Instead of procrastinating until the last week or so, try to begin packing at least a month to a month and a half in advance.

First to pack of course are non essential items. These are often garage items, storage areas and closets, fake plants, pictures, etc. As moving day approaches only then do you begin to pack your day to day items.

If you begin your packing 45 days in advance of your movers arrival, and if you pack just 3 boxes per day, that is 135 packed cartons by moving day. Again, just a few boxes per day well in advance of your move will get the job done. Good luck.

Before the movers arrive be sure to secure all valuable and important items. These items include plane tickets, money, valuable jewelry, important documents, passport, etc. Almost everyone has a suitcase or two of valuable and important items. Understand almost without exception movers have no liability for these types of items, so before the movers arrive pack them up and put them in your car or somewhere secure.

There is nothing more frustrating than searching for your plane tickets after the movers have spent 8 hours loading their truck, and possibly wondering if somehow they accidentally got loaded into the moving truck.

December 4, 2008 - Office Moving Preparation
One of the most important areas of preparation for a local office move is labeling of items to be moved and mapping of the furniture. Usually your local movers are charging you by the hour, so make sure to assign a specific number to each office or area or employee, then label every item in that office with the assigned number.

For example, if you are assigned number 5, then label every item you want brought into your office (number 5) with a label that has the number 5 marked on it. Everything, including desks, file cabinets, chairs, credenzas, lamps, stands, computer components, pictures, boxes, plants, chair mats . . . . anything you want to end up in office number 5, mark it with a label that has the number 5 on it so your mover knows where to bring your items.
